AKRON, Ohio-Â The University of Akron women's soccer team (3-11-0, 1-5-0 MAC) will continue conference play this week hosting Northern Illinois (4-10-0, 1-5-0 MAC) Thursday, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. at FirstEnergy Stadium, followed by traveling to Kalamazoo, Mich. to face Western Michigan on Sunday, Oct. 17, at 2 p.m. at the WMU Soccer Complex.

SCOUTING AKRON:
Akron returns eight starters in 2021, including four of its top-five goal scorers led by junior Sydney Worthy (Groveport, Ohio), who posted team-high marks in goals (3), points (8), shots (13) and game-winners (2). Tallying one goal each for the Zips was redshirt junior Aislinn Meaney (Ennis, Ireland), junior Carly Pcholinsky (South Park, Pa.) and freshman Annabel Thomas (Canonsburg, Pa.). Sophomore GK Vanessa Berlin (Gau-Oderheim, Germany) returns for Akron after starting six games this past spring and recording 35 saves.

Akron enters Thursday's game 3-11-0 overall and 1-5-0 in MAC play after completing a 2-0 shutout over Eastern Michigan on Sunday. The Zips posted a 17-10 advantage in shots on the afternoon, including 9-4 edge in shots on goal. Redshirt Aislinn Meaney (Claire, Ireland) led the Zips' attack with four shots. Katie Stafford and Worthy both scored goals for the Zips in the game.
Stafford paces the Zips this season in goals (4), and points (9) while Meaney leads the squad in shots (22) and shots on goal (11).  Freshman goalkeeper Penelope Cuirinier (Mionnay, France) has recorded 66 saves on the campaign.

Akron is led by seventh-year head coach Noreen Herlihy, who maintains a 34-72-14 ledger at the helm of the Zips' program, and a 284-185-44 mark in 27 campaigns overall as a head coach.

Northern Illinois enters play this Thursday, standing at 4-10-0 overall and 1-5-0 in MAC play after falling to Ohio, 4-0 on Sunday.

The Huskies are led by Haley Hoppe who paces the squad in goals (6), points (14), and shots (47), followed by Amanda Czerniak with two goals and 11 shots. Goalkeeper Sadie McGill has played in 11 games and has recorded 67 saves.
