Notre Dame, Ind. – The Akron women's swimming and diving team hit the water for the first time in 2021 at Notre Dame's Shamrock Invitational and the Zips concluded the first of three sessions with 26 points on Friday at Rolfs Aquatic Center.

Notre Dame registered 84 points and claimed the top spot in all six events. The Irish opened the day with a win in the 200 Freestyle Relay with a 1:30.78 time. Akron's relay team of junior Sarah Watson (Winnipeg, Manitoba), sophomore Victoria Kaufman (Westminster, Md.), sophomore Olivia DeRodes (Fremont, Ohio) and sophomore Rachel Schiffli (Indianapolis, Ind.) posted a second-place finish (1:30.97), while freshman Madelyn Gatrall (Windsor, Ontario), junior Lauren Cooper (Dublin, Ohio), sophomore Weronika Gorecka (Wroclaw, Poland) and freshman Astrid Halvorsen (Stroemmen, Norway) claimed third (133:03).

Halvorsen placed seventh in the 500 Freestyle (4:55.79), the session's second event, while Watson was runner-up in the 200 Individual Medley (1:59.28). The Zips received another Top 5 performance as Kaufman touched third in the 50 Freestyle and sophomore Paige Kalik (Irwin, Pa.) was fourth in 3-Meter Diving with 266.70 points.

In the final event of the first session, the Akron 400 Medley Relay team of Gatrall, Watson, Schiffli and junior Andrea Fischer (Oak Grove, Minn.) posted a second-fastest time of 3:37.18.
