Former Zips Bassitt and Brubaker Finding Success on MLB Stage

AKRON, Ohio - Chris Bassitt (2008-11) and JT Brubaker (2013-15) have found a niche on the MLB landscape this season as the former Zips' pitchers are representing Akron baseball for the Oakland A's and Pittsburgh Pirates, respectively, in 2020.

In his sixth major-league season, Bassitt is off to a 2-0 start with a 2.42 ERA with Oakland, who own an MLB-best record of 16-6 to lead the American League Western Division by 4.5 games.

Appearing in four games this season, all starts, Bassitt has struck out 19, while walking only four across 22.1 innings of work. Oakland is 4-0 in his starts, with Bassitt registering a season-high seven strikeouts in a 3-2 victory past Seattle on Aug. 2.

Brubaker made his MLB debut in a 5-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on July 26, tossing 2.0 innings of shutout baseball to record the hold en route to striking out four, including Kolten Wong for his first career strikeout.

He followed with a 3.0 innings of shutout relief against the Chicago Cubs on Aug. 1, before earning his first start in the big leagues in a 6-5 victory past the Minnesota Twins on Aug. 6.

Brubaker is slated to make his second career start in the opener of a three-game set against the Cleveland Indians at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pa., on Tuesday. Aug. 18.
