Â
AKRON, Ohio - We continue updates from across country and the world in what we like to call Postcards from The Zips. Up next, from men's soccer is Akron junior Federico Serra (Cagliari, Italy).
Â
First off, are you and your family doing well?
Â
My family and I are respecting every sanitary rule that they are giving us here as we are staying at home.
Â
With a few days of reflection and hopefully time spent with your family back home, have you been able to wrap your head around what has occurred or is it still too soon?
Â
Honestly is difficult to understand the current situation, because everything is changing everyday across Italy and around the world.
Â
Talk about the importance of having your family around and knowing that you are safely back home with them?
Â
Being with my family right now is the best thing to do, I love them, and I feel safe here.
Â
What is daily life like back home this week knowing that you're expected to stay inside your homes?
Â
We have to stay at home and personally it's not that bad. I needed some rest with my parents, but I'm still working to keep a good physical shape.
Â
Discuss your feelings as the events of last week were occurring that ultimately led to the cancellation of spring sports and you returning home?
Â
The journey back home was not great. I travelled from Cleveland to New York and a lot of flights were cancelled, so the situation in the airport was very confusing. When I landed in Italy, first in Rome, and then in Cagliari (my city), I have been subjected to many sanitary checks. It was not easy travel returning home.
Â
Obviously, my feelings right now are not very good. The spring is a very good time to get ready for the fall and we did a great work as a team. But now, we need to focus on the situation that we are going through. Be at home and be safe!
Â
Discuss your communication with your teammates around the world and back here in Ohio during this time?
Â
I discussed with some of my mates after arriving home. I asked them the situation in their place. I'm going to miss them! I hope that every one of them are safe and will have a good time with family.
Â
Now back in Italy, discuss what your next steps will be in training as you move forward with an eye of being ready in the fall?
Â
Every day I follow the training plan I received from our coaches. I try to add some exercises that I feel I need, especially during this week of spring break. I hope to go outside soon and restart running.
Â
Can you describe what it has means to be a Zip, especially during this time?Â
Â
Being a Zip during this time is really important, maybe more than when we are on campus. I feel the help and affection from the University and from my mates, which are my second family.
