Akron Shines as Zips Better Kent State in Annual Indoor Dual Meet

KENT, Ohio – The University of Akron senior Lucy Bryan (Bristol, England) recorded the No. 2 mark in the NCAA this season en route to winning the women's pole vault eclipsing 14-7.25 (4.45m) to direct the Zips to a pair of dual-meet victories over Kent State on Friday, Jan. 24, at the Kent State Field House.
The Akron men's and women's track and field teams combined to win 19 events on the evening, while placing second in an additional 14 to best Kent State.
In the men's dual meet, Akron bettered the Golden Flashes, 84-67, while the Zips' women's squad edged Kent State, 86-65.
Redshirt freshman Demetrius Jackson (Beachwood, Ohio) earned a pair of victories on the evening posting winning times of 6.81 and 21.19 in the 60 and 200 meters, respectively. His career-best performance in the 200 meters stands as the third-fastest time in indoor program history and No. 14 time in the NCAA this season.
Sophomore Zoi Balamouti (Heraklion, Greece) captured the women's triple jump with the fifth-best mark in indoor program history soaring 40-1.25 (12.22m).
Junior Lindsey Scarton (Berea, Ohio) kicked off the running portion of the meet for Akron women's team winning the women's mile in a time of 5:01.53.
Junior Andre Bollam-Godbott (Brunswick, Ohio) opened the evening on the track for the Zips' men's team capturing the victory in the men's mile in a time of 4:11.67, before placing second in the men's 800 meters in a time of 1:55.04.
Sophomore Jasmyn Allen (Twinsburg, Ohio) crossed the line first in the women's 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.73.
Redshirt junior Patrick Kimball (Pittsburgh, Pa.) won the men's 60-meter hurdles in 8.11, before freshman Zarik Brown (Dayton, Ohio) bested the field in the men's 400 meters crossing the line in a career-best time of 48.01.
Senior Bailey Lack (Brunswick, Ohio) captured the women's 400 meters in a time of 58.12, before anchoring the winning women's 4x400 relay squad of redshirt junior Dimitra Gnafaki (Chania, Greece), senior Iman Batiste (Dublin, Ohio), sophomore Sara Foster (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) and Lack, which recorded a time of 3:57.04.
Freshman Makenna Heimlich (Shelby, Ohio) bested the field in the women's 800 meters in a career-best time of 2:14.90.
Freshman Blake Lucius (Crestline, Ohio) triumphed in the men's 800 meters in a time of 1:54.74.
Sophomore Lizzy Gurko (Northfield, Ohio) won the women's 3,000 meters crossing the line first in a career-best time of 10:18.50.
Redshirt junior Marc Migliozzi (Pittsburgh, Pa.) registered the victory in the men's 3,000 meters with a time of 8:24.81.
The men's 4x400 relay squad of sophomore Amir Willis (Cincinnati, Ohio), redshirt freshman Charles Sanders (Cincinnati, Ohio), Brown and redshirt sophomore Garrett White (Cleveland Heights, Ohio) crossed the line first in a time of 3:19.05.
Redshirt junior Hesham Eldesouky (Nasr City, Egypt) registered a mark of 48-2.75 (14.70m) to triumph in the men's triple jump, while placing second in the long jump with a mark of 24-5.50 (7.45m).
Sophomore Kassandra Roemer (Kaiserlautern, Germany) recorded a career-best mark of 18-7.75 (5.68m) to triumph in the women's long jump.
Senior Shawnn Foster (Cheektowa, N.Y.) capped the evening for the Zips winning the women's weight throw with a career-best mark of 59-9.50 (18.22m).
Akron returns to competition next weekend traveling to University Park, Pa., to participate in the Penn State National on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 31 and Feb. 1.
