Akron Set to Open Indoor Campaign Hosting Central Michigan

AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron men's and women's track and field teams are set to open their 2020 indoor campaign this weekend as the Zips welcome Central Michigan to Stile Athletics Field House for a dual meet on Friday, Jan. 17.
UP NEXT: The 28-event meet will commence with the men's and women's pole vault beginning at 6:30 p.m. before the men's mile kicks off action on the track at 7:15 p.m. Tickets are $10 (cash only) and can be purchased at the door. Akron students are free with a Zip Card.
The event will be scored as a dual meet with 5-3-2-1 points being awarded for individual events with two scores per team, while relays will be scored with the winner being awarded five points and the runner-up three points.
On the men's side, the meet will feature the Zips, who were pegged to capture the 2020 Mid-American Conference Indoor Championship in the league's preseason coaches' poll, and the Chippewas, who were tabbed to place fourth.
In women's action, Akron and Central Michigan were picked first and third, respectively, in the preseason coaches' poll. A year ago, the Chippewas captured the 2019 MAC Indoor title.

NATIONAL RANKINGS: The University of Akron track and field teams garnered recognition for their efforts during the outdoor season as the Zips' women's squad ranked 48th in the final 2019 United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division I Division I Women's Outdoor Track & Field National Rating Index.
The Zips' men's and women's squads were the highest-rated teams in the MAC, while the men's and women's squads were ranked No. 19 and No. 23, respectively, in the final Collegiate Outdoor Dual Meet Rankings as compiled by Jesse Squire for Track and Field News.
The Akron men and women also ranked sixth and ninth, respectively, in the Great Lakes Regional polls.
ZIPS AMONG NATION'S BEST IN 2019 TFRRS RANKINGS: Akron had seven student-athletes ranked in the top-25 nationally by the Track and Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS) during the indoor campaign a year ago, including Matt Ludwig, who was second in the nation in the men's pole vault (19-1.50/5.83m).
Also rated among the top-25 was senior Lucy Bryan (Bristol, England) (sixth in women's pole vault – 14-6.25/4.43m), Jordan Latimer (eighth in men's long jump – 26-0.25/7.93m), redshirt junior Hesham Eldesouky (Nasr City, Egypt) (16th in the triple jump – 52-6/16.00m), and Terrell McClain (17th in men's long jump – 25-7.75/7.80m), Mackenzie Andrews (19th in the women's mile – 4:35.63), and Curtis Richardson (24th in the men's high jump – 7-1.75/2.18m).
