Jenn David Leads Zips with 2-Under Performance at the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Freshman Jennifer David (Hudson, Ohio) used her first under-par collegiate performance, 70 (-2), to elevate the Akron women's golf team two spots on the team leaderboard (9th, 602 (+26)) at the second round of the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational on Saturday.

David opened the second round on hole No. 10 at the par-72, 6,114-yard University Club of Kentucky Big Blue Course. She earned par on the initial hole and fired the first of five birdies on hole No. 11. David maintained the 1-under ledger for three holes until a double bogey pushed the scorecard to 1-over. She added three additional par scores to her initial nine-hole tally, taking a 37 (+1) to the front side of the course.

David carded back-to-back birdies on holes No. 1 and 2, returning to 1-under par, but held an even scorecard after the third hole. She responded with her eighth par of the round before registering another birdie on hole No. 5. With four holes remaining and standing at 1-under par, David recorded three consecutive par scores and finished the round with a birdie for the 70 (-2) effort. She moved-up 34 spots on the players leaderboard and currently ranks tied for 18th overall with a 78-70 – 148 (+4) two-round total.

Sophomore Jacinta Pikunas (Youngstown, Ohio) followed in scoring for Akron, collecting a 73 (+1) second-round total with 11 pars and three birdies. Pikunas climbed 20 spots on the leaderboard and owns an 80-73 – 153 (+9) tournament total, ranking tied for 39th overall.

The first-round leader for Akron, freshman Jessica Hahn (Canton, Ohio), followed the team-best 75 (+3) opening round with a 2-over par effort. She cut one-stroke from her total with 10 pars and three birdies to enter the final round with a 75-74 – 149 (+5) total. Hahn is Akron's second leading scorer while ranking tied for 23rd on the player leaderboard, up one slot from the opening round.

Rounding out the Zips' scoring efforts were sophomore Ivana Shah (Mumbai, India) and freshman Riley Dean (Lewis Center, Ohio). Shah posted a 75 (+3) second-round total to bring her tournament total to 81-75 – 156 (+12) while Dean used a different path to get to 156 total strokes. Dean recorded 18-hole rounds of 77 (+5) and 79 (+7), respectively. Both, Shah and Dean are tied at 54th overall.

Kentucky created an eight-stroke lead over the 13-team field with a 287 (-1) second round performance, establishing a 285-287 – 572 (-4) tournament total. Penn State is second in team scoring with a 287-293 – 580 (+4) total. The Zips fired a season-best 292 (+4) second round total.

Carlota Palacios (Tulane) continues to lead the individual race with 69-71 – 140 (-4) scores while Mathilde Delavallade (Penn State) fell into a three-way tie for second place with Pilar Echeverria (Indianapolis) and Rikke Svejgaard (Kentucky) at 141 (-3).

The final round is scheduled for a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m. The Zips are slated to start on holes 8-11 with David (8), Hahn (9), Pikunas (10B), Shah (10A) and Dean (11).
