AKRON, Ohio – After an 11-day layoff, the University of Akron women's golf team is scheduled to play their second event of the season at the Nittany Lion Invitational hosted by Penn State on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 21-22, in State College, Pa.
Â
"Penn State is always one of our favorite events to travel to in the Fall," Zips head coach Jenny King said. " The course is fun and the field is loaded with so many good players. It's a great chance for us to show how hard we have been working on our short games because scoring is so key here. We look forward to the weekend ahead."
Â
The 54-hole event will be played at the par-72, 6,322-yard Penn State Blue Course and features 11 teams, including Penn State (host), Akron, Bucknell, Georgetown, High Point, Ohio, Rutgers, Seton Hall, Navy, Pennsylvania, and Youngstown.
Â
The Zips return four letterwinners and add three newcomers for the 2019-20 campaign, led by sophomores Jacinta Pikunas (Youngstown, Ohio) and Ivana Shah (Mumbai, India). Also returning for the Zips are junior Abbie Pearce (Green, Ohio) and senior Allyson Wentworth (Stewartsville, N.J.). The Zips freshmen include Jennifer David (Hudson, Ohio), Riley Dean (Lewis Center, Ohio) and Jessica Hahn (Canton, Ohio).
Â
After a tough week of qualifying, the Zips starting five was set. Pikunas, Shah and Pearce will lead the way while Dean makes her second tournament appearance and David prepares for her collegiate debut.
Â
On Saturday (Sept. 21), the field is scheduled to play a pair of 18-hole rounds with a shotgun start and continuous play through 36 holes. Sunday's final round is scheduled for a shotgun start. Fans can follow the action live via GolfStat Live Scoring.
