Fitschen & Sharrits Named Zips’ Student-Athletes of the Week

AKRON, Ohio – Football's Jerry Fitschen (Orange, Calif.) and volleyball's Taylor Sharrits (Concord, Ohio) have been tabbed the Zips' Summa Health Student-Athletes of the Week on September 2.
At Illinois in the season opener, redshirt junior PK Fitschen kicked off twice for 103 yards (51.5 average). He scored Akron's only points, a 42-yard field goal on the opening drive. The field goal was the first of his collegiate career. In the Mid-American Conference stats, Fitschen is No. 1 in field goals (1.00) and No. 10 in scoring (3.0).
At the Homewood Suites Classic, junior libero Sharrits earned a spot in the All-Tournament team, averaging 3.92 digs per set over three games, including 18 digs and five service aces in the first win of the season against Bryant. In the MAC stats, Sharrits is No. 4 in digs/set (3.92) and No. 5 in aces/set scoring (.45).
Under first-year head coach Tom Arth, Akron football hosts UAB in the home opener on Saturday, Sept. 7, at InfoCision Stadium-Summa Field at Noon on the CBS Sports Network.
Season ticket plans for the 2019 season—which include a ticket to all six home games as well as a parking pass– can be purchased now (starting at only $60 each) by calling or texting 888-99-AKRON (25766) or visiting The C.P. and Cornelia S. Chima Athletics Ticket Office at InfoCision Stadium-Summa Field (located at 375 E. Exchange Street, near Gate 1 at the southwest corner of the venue, at the corner of E. Exchange and S. Union streets) during business hours (Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.).
Volleyball, under the guidance of fifth-year head coach Tom Hanna, travels to Xavier's Tournament on Sept. 6-7.
