Women’s Tennis Opens Season at Thunder in the Mountains Tourney

AKRON, Ohio– The University of Akron women's tennis team opens the 2019-20 season this weekend at the Thunder in the Mountains Tournament, hosted by Marshall and West Virginia.
Joining the hosts and the Zips will be James Madison, Toledo, and Youngstown State. All outdoor play will take place at the Schoenbaum Tennis Courts in Charleston, W.Va. In the event of inclement weather, play will be moved to the YMCA.
Action begins on Friday, Sept. 20, at 7:30 a.m. with singles action. Doubles begin at 9 a.m.
Play continues on Saturday, Sept. 21, and Sunday, Sept. 22. All players will participate in the children's clinic on Saturday at 5 p.m. Live stats will be available online.
Under the guidance of interim head coach Brian Peters, Akron returns six letterwinners– senior Rita Pedroso (Porto, Portugal); juniors Anna Uljanov (Schweinfurt, Germany), Miruna Vasilescu (Ulm, Germany); and sophomores Enya Forgaci (Boca Raton, Fla.), Holland Long (Rochester, N.Y.), and Claudia Cecilia Rosas Garcia (Gaudalajara, Mexico).
UA welcome three newcomers– junior transfer Jemi Aguilar (Weston, Fla.), and freshmen Tanja Derowski (Bruckmuehl, Germany) and Aliona Kruglov (Karmiel, Israel).
The Zips' captains are Rita Pedroso and Anna Uljanov.
