Nicholson Enters Final Round of Hoya Invitational as Runner-Up, Zips Fourth

Beallsville, Md. – Senior Danielle Nicholson (Geneva, Ohio) fired a 1-over par 145 total to rank second overall after 36 holes of the Hoya Invitational, while the Zips are fourth in team scoring with a 304-309 – 613 (+37).

On the initial 18-hole round, Nicholson posted an even-par 72 score with 12 pars, three birdies and three bogeys. She opened the round with back-to-back bogeys, but earned a stroke back on the fifth hole with a birdie. Nicholson carded five-straight par scores and dropped a third stroke to back to 2-over par with seven holes remaining. Nicholson pared the following two holes and recorded two-consecutive birdies for an even-par ledger. She earned par scores for the three remaining holes.

In round two, Nicholson collected seven pars and five birdies mixed with six bogeys for a 1-over 73 score. Again, Nicholson opened the round by using extra strokes. She bogeyed three-straight holes before registering her first par and birdie scores. She followed with a bogey and birdie, but traded pars and bogeys over the next four holes. With six holes remaining, Nicholson finished strong posting three birdies and pars, including two-straight birdies to finish the round. Nicholson trails Georgetown's Christina Parsells by one stroke.

Sophomore Abbie Pearce (Green, Ohio) followed in scoring for Akron on rounds of 76 (+4) and 79 (+7) for a 155 (+11) two-round total. Pearce currently is tied for 18th overall, and carded 19 pars and five birdies in 36-holes of play.

Also in the Top 25 entering the final round are freshman Ivana Shah (Mumbai, India) and junior Allyson Wentworth (Stewartsville, N.J.), both totaling 158 (+14) scores to be tied for 25th overall. Shah posted a pair of 79 (+7) scores, while Wentworth recorded 77 (+5) and 81 (+9) rounds.

Rounding out the Zips' scoring was senior Makayla Dull (Fremont, Ohio) with 82-78 – 160 (+16) for 29th overall.

Georgetown leads the team scoring by 16 strokes, 293-299 - 592 (+16), while Richmond and Ball State are tied for second with 608 (+32) scores – Five strokes ahead of the fourth-place Zips.
