Akron finished the first round with a 311 (+23) team ledger which was good for eighth place. The Zips cut the deficit in half during the second round and ascended to the fourth spot with a 1-under par 287 team tally, fueled by senior Elliott Grayson (Shelby, N.C.) and freshmen Beau Bayerl (Ashland, Ohio). Both, Grayson and Bayerl carded 1-under par 71 efforts while freshman Ignacio Puente (Seville, Spain) finished the round with an even-par 72 performance.
As a result, Akron finished the event fourth overall out of nine participating conference schools. Kent State and Eastern Michigan (+5, 581) were named co-champions at the league finale as the Golden Flashes earned the tiebreaker for the automatic qualifying bid to the 2019 NCAA Golf Championships. The tiebreaker was the cumulative total of non-counting scores for each team involved.
Toledo's Duncan McNeill claimed individual MAC Champion honors after two under-par scoring efforts, including a 4-under par 68 total which allowed him to move to the front of the pack (-5, 71-68 – 139). KSU's Gisli Sveinbergsson earned runner-up with a 71-71 - 142 (-2) tournament total.
The Zips had four players place in the Top 25 as Bayerl (+4, 148) finished tied for ninth overall, Puente (+5, 149) tied for 13th, Grayson tied for 18th and sophomore Fabian Sunden (Sweden) tied for 22nd - junior Mitchell McFarland (Wheelersburg, Ohio) placed 40th (+15, 159).
The originally scheduled 72-hole championship was shortened to 36 holes after multiple weather delays and fair playing conditions. Friday's scheduled 36-holes of competition was delayed, shortened to 18 holes and ultimately canceled due to course conditions and rain. The saturated course allowed the tournament to play 36 holes on Saturday, but evening rains forced MAC officials to suspend the final 18 holes because of course conditions and standing water.
The Mid-American Conference awards ceremony was moved to Sunday morning as Beau Breault (EMU) was named MAC Golfer of the Year while Joe Ranieri (BSU) earned MAC Freshman of the Year, Timothy Wiseman (BSU) claimed Earl Yestingsmeier Sportsmanship Award, and EMU's head coach Bruce Cunningham was named Kermit Blosser MAC Coach of the Year.
The MAC All-tournament team was also announced as Duncan McNeill (UT), Gisli Sveinbergsson (KSU), CJ Jones (BSU), Will Kurtz (KSU) and Zach Sudinsky (EMU) received the honors.
Kent State picked-up one point for the Crystal Clinic Wagon Wheel Challenge. The Golden Flashes now hold a one point advantage 6.5-5.5 with two points remaining – one point each for men's and women's outdoor track & field.
