Bayerl Earns MAC Golfer of the Week Award

CLEVELAND – Redshirt freshman Beau Bayerl (Ashland, Ohio) was named Mid-American Conference Golfer of the Week after a stellar performance at the Wildcat Spring Invitational, the league announced on Friday.

Bayerl led the Zips to a second-place finish earlier this week and tied for seventh overall on the individual leaderboard. He used a nearly flawless first round to open the 36-hole tournament at White Manor Country Club, collecting 11 pars, six birdies and one bogey for a 5-under par 66 score. The result was Bayerl's career-low at the collegiate level and the Top 10 finish marked his career-best performance.

Bayerl followed with a 2-over par 73 score which included seven birdies and five pars. For the tournament, he carded 16 par scores and 13 birdies en route to a 139 (-3) ledger.

Bayerl boasts a 75.88 stroke average which ranks fourth on the team behind senior Elliott Grayson (72.84), junior Mitchell McFarland (75.12) and freshman Ignacio Puente (75.5). Bayerl has three Top 25 finishes for his career to date.

The Zips will be back in action at the Mid-American Conference Tournament at Club Walden Club in Aurora, Ohio on Thursday-Sunday, April 25-28.
