AKRON - The Akron Zips women's golf team looks to continue their solid play at the Colonel Classic hosted by Eastern Kentucky on Friday and Saturday, March 29-30 at the University Club at Arlington in Richmond, Ky.
"We are still working hard between events to get our games in the right place before the MAC Championship," Zips' head coach Jenny King said. "EKU will be a great event with some good teams. We are excited for the challenge and excited for the opportunity to keep learning!"
The University Club in Arlington is a par-72 course the stretches 5,885 yards. Zips enter the 54-hole event after placing fifth overall at the Kingsmill Invitational and posting three Top 5 finishes in the last four events.
Akron will use the same lineup as senior Danielle Nicholson (Geneva, Ohio) and freshman Ivana Shah (Mumbai, India) are coming off Mid-American Conference Co-Golfer of the Week performances. Joining Nicholson and Shah are senior Makayla Dull (Fremont, Ohio), junior Allyson Wentworth (Stewartsville, N.J.) and sophomore Abbie Pearce (Green, Ohio).
Eastern Kentucky hosts the 13-team field tournament that includes four teams from the Mid-American Conference in Akron, Ball State, Northern Illinois, and Ohio, as well as, Austin Peay, Belmont, Cleveland State, Cumberlands, Dayton, IUPUI, Oakland, Tennessee Tech and Kentucky (individuals only).
The Colonel Classic is scheduled for two 18-hole rounds of golf on Friday, beginning with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. ET. Saturday's final round is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. ET with tee times from holes No. 1 and 10.
