Nicholson Wins Bucknell Spring Break Intercollegiate, Zips Third

Orlando, Fla. – Senior Danielle Nicholson (Geneva, Ohio) turned a two-stroke lead into a five-stroke tournament win at the Bucknell Spring Break Intercollegiate on Tuesday at Reunion Resort's Watson Course as the Zips finished third overall with a 319-305 – 624 (+48).

After Monday's opening round at the par-72, 5,900-yard course, Nicholson fired an even-par 72, only to improve by two strokes on the second 18 holes. She carded a final round 2-under par 70 effort for a 142 (-2), two-round tournament total.Nicholson posted 10 pars, five birdies and three bogeys.

She opened the round with back-to-back par scores and recorded birdie on holes No. 3 and 4. After two additional pars, Nicholson posted a bogey, but followed with a birdie to remain 2-under after nine holes.

On the back nine, Nicholson earned two pars and a birdie on holes 10-12, but went bogey, birdie, bogey the following three holes. She ended the round with three consecutive par scores.

Sophomore Abbie Pearce (Green, Ohio) followed with a 158 (+14) ledger after cutting six strokes from her original score. She posted rounds of 82 (+10) and 76 (+4), tying for 12th overall. Also landing inside the Top 15 was, freshman Ivana Shah (Mumbai, India) who finished with a 159 (+15) score on rounds of 81 (+9) and 78 (+6).

Rounding out the Zips' scoring were junior Allyson Wentworth (Stewartsville, N.J.) and senior Makayla Dull (Fremont, Ohio). Wentworth tied for 26th overall with a 85-81 – 166 (+22) total, while Dull landed 28th at 84-86 – 170 (+26).

Appalachian State and Richmond tied for the team title with 610 (+34) scores. App State posted rounds of 303 (+15) and 307 (+19), while Richmond shot 306 (+18) and 304 (+16).

The Zips are scheduled to return to action on Monday and Tuesday, March 18-19, at the Kingsmill Intercollegiate in Williamsburg, Va.
