Akron Men’s Soccer Wins Greater Cleveland Sports Award

AKRON AWARD REACTION
CLEVELAND, Ohio – The University of Akron men's soccer squad on the heels of its historic 2018 campaign that culminated in the Zips advancing to the title game of the College Cup and garnering a national runner-up finish were named the winner of the Male Collegiate Athlete(s) of the Year award at the 19th Greater Cleveland Sports Awards inside the Grand Ballroom of the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel on Wednesday, Feb. 6.
Akron was one of three finalists in the category joining Mount Union wrestler Jairod James and Dre'Mont Jones of the Ohio State football team.
Accepting the honor for the Zips was head coach Jared Embick along with redshirt junior Skye Harter (Copley, Ohio), sophomore Daniel Strachan (Lakewood, Ohio) and freshman Colin Biros (Canton, Ohio).
Greater Cleveland Sports Awards are the premier annual sports fundraising event in Cleveland. ESPN's Hannah Storm led the celebration of a year of athletic achievements in Northeast Ohio from high school stars to professional athletes.
Finalists were selected by local sports and media outlets who choose outstanding athletes from Northeast Ohio in each of the award categories.
