Akron Men's Soccer to Host Winter ID Camps

AKRON SOCCER CAMPS INFORMATION

AKRON, Ohio - Registration is open for the University of Akron men's soccer program's Winter Camps, which run January 24-25 (Goalkeeping) and February 14-16 (College Winter ID), respectively.

Winter ID Camp
Akron's Winter ID Camp, which runs from February 14-16, is filling up quickly and boys ages 14 and up who are interested are strongly encouraged to pre-register at AkronSoccerCamp.com.

The ID Camp, which features the coaching staff from the Zips as well as other top coaches from across the country, is in its 12th year of existence. The three-day event is designed for advanced player development and exposure to some of the nation's top college coaches. Last year included Ohio State, Ashland, and Penn State Behrend. After a successful and talent-laden 2019 winter camp we look forward to having even more schools join us for 2020. In addition to college coaches, several Zips players will be employed by the camp for demonstration purposes.

The staff at Akron believes that "the game is the best teacher." The same philosophy will be applied at camp. The focus of all activities will be learning through play. Enrollment in the camp is extremely limited to allow individual attention for each player from the staff of college coaches. A combination of small sided and 11v11 games is the core of the camp curriculum.

Goalkeeping
Akron Soccer Goalkeeping Camp, which runs from January 24-25, for boys and girls ages 7-18, focuses on the technical and tactical skills needed to succeed in one of the most demanding and unique positions in all of team sports. The University of Akron Assistant Coach Ger Coppinger will conduct sessions for the weekend. Current and former Zips goalkeepers as well as other collegiate level goalkeeping coaches will assist Coach Coppinger. Visit AkronSoccerCamp.com to register.

Akron Soccer - The University of Akron men's soccer program owns the highest winning percentage in the nation since 2007, has developed into a perennial NCAA contender since capturing the school's first team national championship in any sport in 2010. While incorporating a style of play that is attractive and attack-oriented, yet effective on both sides of the ball, the Zips reached the NCAA final in 2009, 2010 and 2018 and have advanced to the NCAA's College Cup in three of the last five seasons.

Developing players for the next level has become commonplace for the Akron staff as 42 Zips have gone on to play professionally either in Major League Soccer, USL or overseas since 2006, including No. 1 overall picks Joao Moutinho in 2018 and Steve Zakuani in 2009, and No. 2 overall picks Darlington Nagbe in 2011 and Darren Mattocks in 2012 - just to name a few. Nagbe was part of a draft class that set MLS draft day records for most players drafted from a single school in the first round (5) and overall (8).
