Â
AKRON, Ohio -Â Major League Soccer announced details for the inaugural 2019 adidas MLS College Showcase, which will take place from Dec. 13-15 in Raleigh, N.C. The three-day event, which will include Akron junior David Egbo (Enugu, Nigeria) and sophomore Carlo Ritaccio (Westbury, N.Y.), provides technical staffs from every MLS club an opportunity to scout the top collegiate prospects in the nation, including players with remaining NCAA eligibility.
Â
The 2019 adidas MLS College Showcase is set to feature 40 top college players, ranging from freshmen to seniors, participating in a series of training sessions, testing, interviews, and match play. This event will allow MLS clubs to interact with potential SuperDraft selections earlier in their collegiate careers without jeopardizing players' collegiate eligibility.
Â
The 2019 adidas MLS College Showcase occurs in conjunction with the 2019 NCAA Men's College Cup and is a closed-door scouting event officially sanctioned by the NCAA.
Â
The eligible player list for the 2020 MLS SuperDraft presented by adidas will be announced at a later date following the 2019 adidas MLS College Showcase.
Â
This past week, Egbo garnered second-team United Soccer Coaches All-North Region accolades for the Zips, while Ritaccio was named a third-team selection.
Â
Egbo earned All-North Regional honors for second consecutive season, while Ritaccio collected regional recognition for the first time.
Â
Pulling in First-Team All-MAC honors for the second straight year, Egbo started 13 of the 15 games in which he appeared in this season, registering team-leading marks in goals (9), assists (4), points (18), shots (49) and shots on goal (19).
Â
Egbo rated second in the MAC in goals (0.47), points (1.20), shots (3.27) and shots on goal (1.27) per contest. In league-only affairs, he led the conference in goals (0.75), points (2.25) and shots (4.00) per outing, while pacing all players in total goals (3) and points (9), and ranking second in total assists (3) and shots (16).
Â
A year after garnering second-team all-league honors, Ritaccio, who started each of the 15 matches he appeared in for Akron, was elevated to a First-Team All-MAC recipient this season. He helped anchor a Zips' defensive unit that has posted four shutouts on the campaign, while adding an assist on the strength of eight shots, including three on frame.
