Zips Wrap Up Regular Season with Back-to-Back MAC Duals

AKRON, Ohio - The University of Akron swimming and diving team will wrap up its regular season as it hosts Mid-American Conference opponents in back-to-back duals this week at Ocasek Natatorium. The Zips will face Bowling Green on Thursday, Jan. 31, at 4 p.m. before taking on Ohio, Friday, Feb. 1, at 5 p.m. Akron will honor its seniors prior to the dual on Friday.

The Zips are coming off of a second-place finish at the Shamrock Invitational last week, where they won a total of six events including the 400 freestyle relay that broke a pool, program and MAC record. Akron is 4-1 in dual competition this season, including a 2-0 mark against MAC opponents.

Bowling Green is 7-3 in dual action, 1-1 in MAC competition. The last action the Falcon saw was a 167-122 loss to Eastern Michigan. This will be the second time the Zips will meet BGSU this season. The Falcons competed at Akron's annual Zippy Invitational, where they came in fourth overall as Akron finished first. The last time the two teams went head to head was on Jan. 23, 2015, where Akron won, 167-132.

Ohio is 5-2 in duals this season, including a 1-2 mark in MAC action. The Bobcats are coming off of a 208-84 win over Youngstown State. A season ago, Akron defeated Ohio, 193-106.

At the MAC Championships last year, Akron came in first place with 827.5 points, while Bowling Green took fifth with 333 points and Ohio finished seventh with 253 points.

Admission is free to the public for both events.

After its final pair of duals this week, Akron will begin to prepare for MAC Championships which will take place Feb. 27-March 2. The meet will be hosted by Akron at Ocasek Natatorium.
