Fort Wayne, Ind. – The Akron Zips men's golf team wrapped up the 2017-18 season with a 312 (+24) final round and 1,226 (+74) tournament total en route to a fourth-place finish at the 2018 Mid-American Conference Men's Golf Championships at Sycamore Hills Golf Club on Sunday.

Kent State overcame a 10-stroke deficit to claim the MAC title, while the Golden Flashes Ian Holt jumped four spots to claim the Individual MAC Championship with a 295 (+7). In addition, KSU's Bjarki Petursson climbed five spots for runner-up honors (296, +8). With the win, the Golden Flashes tied the Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center Wagon Wheel Challenge at 5.5 points apiece.

For Akron, senior George Baylis (Ascot, England) led the way. Baylis finished tied for fifth overall in his final MAC Championships event. He fired a final round 76 (+4) score to bring his tournament total to 72-76-75-76 – 299 (+11). After the tournament, Baylis was named to the 2018 MAC All-Tournament Team.

Finishing second in scoring for the Zips was sophomore Mitchell McFarland (Wheelersburg, Ohio). McFarland finished ninth overall with a 73-76-72-81 – 302 (+14) performance in his first MAC Championship event.

Junior Elliott Grayson (Shelby, N.C.) led the Zips' final round scoring with a 2-over 74 score, climbing eight spots on the leaderboard. He finished 20^th overall with a 78-79-79-74 – 310 (+22) effort. After the tournament, Grayson was named to the All-MAC second team.

Rounding out the Zips scoring were juniors Jacob Appleby (North Canton, Ohio) and Jacob Morgan (Lafayette, Ga.). Appleby finished the season finale ranked tied for 25^th place (74-82-78-81 – 315, +27), while Morgan placed tied for 41^st overall (80-82-82-82 – 326, +38).

The 2018 MAC Championships concludes the Zips 2017-18 campaign.
