COLUMBUS, Ohio – The University of Akron redshirt freshman Vanessa Rivera (Seville, Ohio) and redshirt junior Ashley Murray (Seville, Ohio) each registered career-best times of 17:33.56 and 17:40.27 in the women's 5,000 meters en route to placing fifth and seventh, respectively, to lead the Zips' efforts on the opening night of the Jesse Owens Classic hosted by Ohio State on Friday, April 20.
Freshman Lindsey Scarton (Berea, Ohio) added a career-best time of 4:40.90 in the women's 1,500 meters.
Senior Maurice Harris (Toledo, Ohio) posted a throw of 181-10 (55.44m) to finish seventh in the men's hammer.
Additionally, senior Garrett Crichlow (Twinsburg, Ohio) and freshman Andre Bollam-Godbott (Brunswick, Ohio) added times of 3:59.07 and 3:59.82 in the men's 1,500 meters, while senior Tara Snipes (Covington, Ohio) crossed the line in 4:44.61 in the women's 1,500 meters.
Final-day action at the Jesse Owens Classic gets underway on Saturday, April 21, with field events at 10:30 a.m. before competition on the track commences at 12 p.m.
