AKRON, Ohio – With just two regular-season matches remaining, the University of Akron women's tennis team will host defensing MAC champion Buffalo in Mid-American Conference action on Saturday, April 14, at 1 p.m.
The Zips (14-10 overall, 3-3 MAC) will face the Bulls (13-3 overall, 6-0 MAC) at the LaTuchie Tennis Center in Stow.
"We are looking forward to the opportunity to play another undefeated conference opponent in Buffalo," said head coach Brandon Padgett. "Last week we were able to step up and play well against a previously undefeated MAC team in Western Michigan. This team continues to work hard and have fun, which is what we always try to do!"
In all-time series, Akron leads Buffalo, 15-10. Last season, the Zips claimed a 5-2 win at UB during the regular season, but UA lost to the eventual MAC champion third-seeded Bulls, 4-3, in the MAC championship semifinal round.
Last week, Akron picked up two crucial MAC wins, defeating Western Michigan, 4-3, and winning 6-1 at Northern Illinois.
Freshman Miruna Vasilescu (Ulm, Germany), this week's MAC Singles Player of the Week, is 16-4 in singles action this spring, playing at the No. 1 and 2 spots. Junior Luisa Echeverry (Cali, Colombia) stands 13-9 in singles action. Junior Carla Flores (Caohuila, Mexico) is 8-2 at No. 6 singles this spring.
At No. 1 doubles, sophomore Rita Pedroso (Porto, Portugal) and freshman Anna Uljanov (Schweinfurt, Germany) are 8-5 at the position this spring. At No. 2 doubles, senior captain Carli Knezevich (Austin, Texas) and Vasilescu are 2-0 in MAC action. At No. 3 doubles, Echeverry and senior Waverly Wituski (Springboro, Ohio) are 4-2 (2-0 in MAC) in spring action.
