Women’s Golf Positioned for Another Top 5 Finish at Colonel Classic

Richmond, Ky. – After an hour and a half delay, the Akron Zips women's golf team opened the Colonel Classic and shot to the top of the leaderboard, finishing 2nd over all with a 298 (+10) after 18 holes of play on Friday at the University Club in Arlington, a par-72 course the stretches 5,815 yards.
Due to the weather delay, Colonel Classic has been shortened to a 36-hole tournament. Akron holds the second position on the team leaderboard, trailing Western Kentucky by one stroke. The Zips carded the 298 (+10) score as all five Zips' golfers ranked inside the Top 25 in scoring.
Junior Danielle Nicholson (Geneva, Ohio) led Akron's opening round scoring with a 1-over par 73, tying for fourth overall. Nicholson collected 11 pars and three birdies, while freshman Jacinta Pikunas (Youngstown, Ohio) finished tied for 10th with a 2-over par 74 score. Pikunas also recorded 11 pars and three birdies.
Sophomore Allyson Wentworth (Stewartsville, N.J.) landed 15th overall after 10 par scores and three birdies for a 75 (+3) ledger, while senior Pader Her (Holt, Mich.) and freshman Abbie Pearce (Green, Ohio) followed with a 22nd place showing. Both, Her and Pearce fired 76 (+4) scores as Her buried seven pars and three birdies and Pearce posted 12-consecutive pars with one birdie.
In addition, junior Makayla Dull (Fremont, Ohio) and senior Mallory Etcheberry (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) joined the Zips playing as individuals. Dull posted a 79 (+7) score to place tied in the 46th position, and Etcheberry tallied an 86 (+14), ranking 83rd overall.
Saturday's final round is rescheduled as a shotgun start to begin at 9 a.m. ET. The Zips are slated to tee-off from holes No. 1-3 while the individuals will start on holes 15 and 17. Fans can follow the action via GolfStat Live Scoring .
