AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron track and field team continues its spring campaign this week as the Zips will be challenged by trio of meets across Texas and North Carolina.
The majority of the squad will be in Texas where Akron will be competing at the Texas Relays in Austin and the Bobcat Invitational in San Marcos this Thursday through Saturday, March 29-31, while the remainder of the team will visit Raleigh, North Carolina for the Raleigh Relays on Friday and Saturday, March 30-31.
TEXAS RELAYS: The 91st annual Texas Relays will draw more than 7,000 athletes from around the country and around the world among the high school, collegiate and professional ranks.
The men's decathlon and women's heptathlon will be contested on Wednesday and Thursday, March 28-29. The decathlon commences the Texas Relays at 12 p.m. ET on Wednesday. Second-day competition in the decathlon begins at 11 a.m. ET. on Thursday.
Field events kick off with the women's hammer on Thursday at 12 p.m. ET, with running events getting underway with the women's 400-meter hurdles at 5:30 p.m. ET. The finals of the 4x400 relays will conclude the Texas Relays on Saturday, March 31, starting at 5:05 p.m. ET.

RALEIGH RELAYS: More than 100 schools and 2,200 athletes are scheduled to compete at the Raleigh Relays, including; freshman Steven Ashcraft (Canton, Ohio), freshman Andre Bollam-Godbott (Brunswick, Ohio), redshirt sophomore Tevin Brown (Toledo, Ohio), senior Garrett Crichlow (Twinsburg, Ohio), sophomore Haley Hess (Curtice, Ohio), redshirt junior Elizabeth Mosier (Austintown, Ohio), redshirt junior Ashley Murray (Seville, Ohio), redshirt freshman Jacob Ondash (Hiram, Ohio), freshman Leah Recker (Findlay, Ohio), redshirt freshman Vanessa Rivera (Seville, Ohio), freshman Lindsey Scarton (Berea, Ohio), senior Tara Snipes (Covington, Ohio), sophomore Victoria Stachowski (Waterford, Mich.), redshirt junior Tristan Williams (Akron, Ohio) and senior Nick Winkler (Wadsworth, Ohio).
Competition gets underway at 9 a.m. on Friday, March 29, with the women's 5,000-meter run. The meet will conclude on Saturday, March 30, starting at 11 a.m. with the men's 10,000 meters.

BOBCAT INVITATIONAL: Akron's final meet this weekend will be the Bobcat Invitational hosted by Texas State beginning on Thursday and running through Saturday, March 29-31, in San Marcos, Texas.
The women's discus will commence competition in the field on Thursday at 12 p.m. ET, before field and track events begin at 2 and 6 p.m. ET, respectively on Friday. Final-day action on Saturday kicks off with the women's javelin at 10 a.m. ET and the women's 4x100 relay at 4 p.m. ET.

NATIONAL RANKINGS: The University of Akron men's and women's track and field teams are ranked 48th and 69th, respectively, in the 2018 United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division I Outdoor Track and Field National Team Computer Preseason Rankings released on March 20.
The Zips' men's squad is the highest-rated team in the Mid-American Conference.
ZIPS AMONG NATION'S BEST IN LATEST TFRRS RANKINGS: Akron currently has eight student-athletes ranked in the top 25 nationally by the Track and Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS) in the latest ratings, including juniors Lucy Bryan (Bristol, England) and Matt Ludwig (Chardon, Ohio), who are second in the women's (13-11.25/4.25m) and men's pole vault (18-4.50/5.60m), respectively.
Also rated is junior Eboni Hall (Pickerington, Ohio) (fifth in women's pole vault – 13-5.25/4.10m), senior Jackie Siefring (Covington, Ohio) (fifth in women's 400-meter hurdles – 59.04), redshirt sophomore Ian Behm (Volant, Pa.) (ninth in the men's javelin – 231-7/70.59m), redshirt junior Jordan Latimer (Huber Heights, Ohio) (10th in the men's long jump – 25-4.50/7.73m), junior Rodrigo Iglesias (Logrono, Spain) (19th in the men's javelin – 222-11/67.95m) and junior Abigale Wilson (Carrollton, Ohio) (19th in the women's discus – 174-3/53.11m).
A YEAR AGO: The Zips posted seven top-five performances at the 2017 Texas Relays led by Phil Jagers winning the men's discus with a mark of 202-8 (61.79m).
Abigale Wilson finished second and fourth, respectively, in the women's 'B' discus (164-1/50.01m) and women's 'B' shot put (48-7.25/14.81m), while Matt Rowland was second in the men's 'B' pole vault (17-6/5.36m) and Matt Ludwig, Nikki Manson and Jackie Siefring placed third in the men's pole vault (18-4.50/5.60m), women's high jump (5-8.75/1.75m) and women's 'B' long jump (19-8.25/6.00m). Additionally, senior Patricia Ortega (Logrono, Spain) posted a 15th-place performance in the women's heptathlon with a cumulative seven-event scorecard of 5,055.
Jagers and junior Tyler Fraker (Delta, Ohio) garnered winning efforts in the men's discus (193-0/58.82m) and men's pole vault (16-4.75/5.00m) at the Bobcat Invitational.
The men's 4x800 relay team of Nick Winkler, Zach Alexander, Dan Zupan and Sean Poholski placed second at the Raleigh Relays crossing the line in 7:34.19, while the 4x1,500 relay squad of Poholski, Alexander, Garrett Crichlow and sophomore Nick Stricklen (Lexington, Ohio) finished fifth with a time of 16:06.31. Individually, redshirt junior Mackenzie Andrews (Toowoomba, Australia) added an eighth-place showing in the women's 1,500 meters (4:25.05).
