Baylis Climbs the Leaderboard with 2-Under Par Performance, Zips 16th Overall

Eatonton, Ga. – Senior George Baylis (Ascot, England) used a 2-under par 70 performance to climb 30 spots on the leaderboard while the Zips fell to 16th overall during the second round of the 13th Annual Linger Longer Invitational on Monday.

During the second round of play at the Great Waters Golf Course at Reynolds Lake Oconee, Baylis shaved five strokes from his previous 18-hole round score. He opened the second round with a bogey and bounced back with a par and birdie to even his scorecard after three holes. Baylis recorded two addition birdies over the next seven holes and played the rest of the day bogey-free. Baylis finished the round with eight consecutive par scores. After 36 holes, Baylis ranks tied for 30th overall with a 75-70 - 145 (+1) tournament total. Despite Baylis' efforts, the Zips fell one spot to 16th overall after a 304 (+16) team performance. Akron enters the final round with a 297-304 – 601 (+25) ledger.

Junior Jacob Appleby (North Canton, Ohio) followed in scoring for Akron with a 76 (+4) total. Appleby started the round with two birdies during the initial five holes for a 2-under tally, but after back-to-back bogeys, he found himself with an even scorecard. Appleby birdied the following hole and finished the first 9-holes with a 1-under score. Appleby only managed to record one birdie and two pars on the final nine holes. He is currently tied for 67th place with a 75-76 – 151 (+7) total.

Finishing third in scoring for Akron was junior Elliott Grayson (Shelby, N.C). Grayson posted a 77 (+5) second-round score after collecting 10 pars and three birdies mixed with five extra-stroke scores. Grayson is currently tied for 71st overall with a 76-77 – 153 (+9) two-round total.

Rounding out the scoring were sophomore Mitchell McFarland (Wheelersburg, Ohio) and freshman Fabian Sunden (Sweden) with 71-83 – 154 (+10) and 83-81 – 164 (+20) scores, respectively.

The Zips are scheduled to start the final round at 10:10 a.m. with Sunden leading the way from hole No. 10. McFarland (10:20), Grayson (10:30), and Appleby (10:40), and Baylis (10:50) will follow.

Georgia currently leads the team scoring with a 558 (-18) score, while the Bulldogs Davis Thompson leads the individual race with a 12-under, 132-stroke total.
