Quartet of Zips Garner TopDrawerSoccer.com Postseason Men’s Soccer Accolades

2018 TOPDRAWERSOCCER.COM MEN'S D1 POSTSEASON AWARDS
AKRON, Ohio – A quartet of University of Akron men's soccer standouts in sophomore David Egbo (Enugu, Nigeria), senior Abdi Mohamed (Westerville, Ohio) and freshmen Colin Biros (Canton, Ohio) and Carlo Ritaccio (Westbury, N.Y.) were honored for their efforts on the pitch in 2018 as TopDrawerSoccer.com recognized the Zips among its postseason award winners on Monday, Dec. 17.
Egbo and Mohamed earned TopDrawerSoccer.com Best XI Third-Team honors, while Ritaccio and Biros were named to the Freshmen Best XI first- and second-teams, respectively.
Additionally, Ritaccio was tabbed as the TopDrawerSoccer.com's National Freshman of the Year, marking the second year in a row a Zip has won the award after Joao Moutinho garnered similar honors in 2017.
A First-Team All-Mid-American Conference performer for the initial time in 2018 was Egbo, who started 21 of the 23 games in which he has appeared for Akron this season, owning team-high marks in goals (13), points (31), shots (61), shots on goal (23) and game-winners (6), while rating third in assists (5).
Mohamed started 23 of the Zips' 24 contests this season owning a goal and five assists, while adding 26 shots, including 12 on frame and helped Akron's defense to record eight shutouts.
A 2018 Second-Team All-MAC performer, Ritaccio, started all 22 matches in which he appeared for the Zips at his center back position, helping anchor a Zips' defensive unit that posted eight shutouts this past season, while contributing a trio of goals on the strength of nine shots, including four on goal.
Biros appeared in 23 games for the Zips as a freshman, including making 23 starts. He contributed three goals and four assists on 23 shots, including six on goal on the campaign. His game-winning goal at Stanford in the Elite Eight secured Akron's six College Cup berth in men's soccer program history.
Ritaccio and Biros joined an elite group of Zips to garner All-Freshman team accolades from TopDrawerSoccer.com joining Evan Bush (2005), Perry Kitchen (2010), Darren Mattocks (2010), David Meves (2009) Ossie Michalsen (2005), Adam Najem (2013), Dillon Serna (2012), Joao Moutinho (2017) and Daniel Strachan (2017).
