AKRON, Ohio – University of Akron men's soccer junior Marcel Zajac (Mississauga, Ontario) was honored for his efforts leading the Zips to a 1-0 victory over top-seeded and second-rated Wake Forest in the third round of the NCAA Tournament as College Soccer News and TopDrawerSoccer.com named him to their National Men's Soccer Teams of the Week.
Zajac played a key role in leading the Zips their triumph at Wake Forest recording the game-winning goal in the 46th minute (45:51) off assists from sophomore David Egbo (Enugu, Nigeria) and senior Abdi Mohamed (Westerville, Ohio).
The tally marked the eighth time in the last nine games in which Zajac has recorded a point for Akron and was his eighth goal of the year.
On the season, Zajac has registered eight goals and a team-leading seven assists on the strength of 34 shots, including 18 on goal, while earning his second straight game-winning tally.
Zajac and the fourth-ranked Zips (13-6-2) return to action on Friday, Nov. 30, traveling to Palo Alto, Calif., to battle second-rated Stanford in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Tournament in a 9 p.m. ET match.
