AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron women's tennis team concludes the Fall portion of its schedule at the MAC Fall Tournament on Nov. 2-4 at the Evert Academy in Boca Raton, Fla.
The tourney will feature Mid-American Conference rivals Akron, Buffalo, Northern Illinois, and Toledo, as well as local teams Florida Atlantic and ASA Miami, one the top junior colleges in the country. Friday's pairings are listed below. Action begins at 11:30 a.m.
"Our final fall event should be a great one," head coach Brandon Padgett said. "Playing on clay will be an interesting way to finish out the fall season. I am excited to see how we play, and I'm looking forward to the opportunity to spend three days with five other excellent teams and coaches, many from the MAC, in what I feel is a wonderful way to close out our fall tennis schedule."
For Akron freshman Enya Forgaci (Boca Raton, Fla.), the trip is a homecoming. She trained at the Evert Academy under tennis legend Chris Evert prior to joining the Zips.
In their last action, the Zips participated in the ITA Midwest Regional Championships. Redshirt senior Sophia Geier (Burgebrach, Germany), seeded ninth, played in the main draw of 16 after upsetting Wisconsin's Anna Makarova in second round action. She is the top seed in singles play at the MAC Fall Tournament.
In doubles action, sophomore Miruna Vasilescu (Ulm, Germany) and junior Rita Pedroso (Porto, Portugal) advanced to the main draw round of 16 with back-to-back upsets of Big Ten duos.
