Burns & Ludwig Recognized as PNC Achievers

AKRON, Ohio— Once again this year, PNC Bank is partnering with Akron Athletics to recognize students who display well-rounded achievement. As part of the Homecoming festivities on Oct. 6, PNC Regional President Kevin Thompson recognized UA students Emily Burns (Barberton, Ohio) and Matt Ludwig (Chardon, Ohio) as PNC Achievers.
Burns, a senior majoring in human resource management, was nominated by four different faculty members. She has held three internships and serves as the president of the Akron Student Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management. Burns also assisted with the start-up for Women in Business and serves on the leadership board. She volunteers at the Chapel, is a member of the College of Business' Dean's Advisory Council and is a nominated attendee of Women in Business Roundtable events hosted by the College of Business. Burns is the president of the Akron Student Chapter, Society for Human Resource Management. She started up a local outreach program called "Project Path" dedicated to assisting high school students with their career paths as they approach graduation.Â
Ludwig, a senior pole vaulter, is a five-time All-America honoree and has earned first-team accolades four times. Last spring, Ludwig captured first-team All-America honors after placing second nationally in the pole vault at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships while also garnering his fourth Mid-American Conference title in the pole vault. During the indoor season, Ludwig earned first-team All-America after placing fourth in the NCAA Indoor Championships. An Academic All-MAC and MAC Distinguished Scholar, Ludwig maintains a 3.873 GPA in biomedical engineering.
