No. 10 Akron Rifle Opens GARC Action Against No. 9 Navy and No. 13 NC State

AKRON, Ohio – The No. 10-ranked University of Akron rifle team will open Great America Rifle Conference action this weekend with matches against No. 9 Navy and No. 13-ranked NC State.
The contest is slated to begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Bancroft Hall Rifle Range in Annapolis, Md. The contest will be hosted by Navy.
Junior Lauryn Cinadr (Brunswick, Ohio) has led the Zips in air rifle for the first two competitions this season. She posted a score of 590 against West Virginia and improved her score by a point (591) last weekend against John Jay.
Freshman Antonio Gross (Webster, N.Y.) led the Zips in smallbore competition in the opening meet of the season with a score of 584. Sophomore Wyatt Openshaw (New Freedom, Pen.) scored personal-best 585 points to help lead Akron to a 4,662-4,325 victory over John Jay.
A season ago, Akron fell to NC State by a score of 4,656-4,642. Openshaw scored 579 points in smallbore, while Cinadr paced the Zips and took top-gun honors in air rifle with a score of 587.
Akron defeated Navy, 4,657-4,641, last season. Junior Kera Kaufman (Delmont, S.D.) was the top smallbore shooter for the Zips, while Openshaw led the way in air rifle.
