NOTRE DAME, IND.- In its final meet of the regular season, the Akron swimming and diving team notched an impressive second-place team finish at the Shamrock Invitational culminating the two-day competition on Saturday afternoon at the Rolfs Aquatic Center with a score of 842.

The Zips' swimmers claimed victories in two races, and placed in the top-three spots in five of the six swimming events, while on the boards Akron placed 14th. The Zips finished the completion bettering a trio of Big Ten opponents in the final team standings.

The afternoon started off with freshman Brooke Lamoureux (Trenton, Ontario) completing the 1650 freestyle in 16:48.58 for a third-place performance.

In the 100 freestyle, junior Sadie Fazekas (Windsor, Ontario) claimed a second-place finish with a 49.31 time.

Senior Paloma Marrero Munoz (Merida, Spain), got the Zips their first individual event win in the 200 breaststroke clocking in at 2:09.85.

Akron continued its fast swimming and claimed the top-two times in the 200 fly. Freshman Paulina Nogaj (Radom, Poland) won the event in 1:58.18, while sophomore Mackenzie Vargas (Roseville, Cali.) took second with a 1:59.04 time.

In the final swimming event of the afternoon, the relay team of Fazekas, sophomores Morgan Waggoner (Fremont, Ohio) and Ellie Nebraska (Columbus, Ohio), and senior Susan Franz (Canton, Ohio) placed second in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:19.73.

Prior to the final events, the one-meter diving portion of the invitational took place. Junior Karly Crail (Edgewood, Ky.) led the Zips' diving squad with a score of 249.90.

Akron will continue to train over the next month in preparation for the 2017-18 Mid-American Conference Championships. The four-time reigning MAC Champions, the Zips will vie for their fifth-consecutive MAC Championship, Feb. 21-24, when Ohio University hosts the championships at the Ohio University Aquatic Center.
