Akron Rifle Secures Victory Over Morehead State

MOREHEAD, Ky. Â The University of Akron rifle team secured a 4,649- 4, 632 victory over Morehead State last weekend at Morehead, Ky.

The Zips claimed the top-two spots in the smallbore competition with junior Caleb Lloyd (Seven Valleys, Pa.) leading the way with a 578 score. Freshman Wyatt Openshaw (Parkon, MD.) claimed second place in the smallbore even with his 576 score.

It was a close battle as the Akron came away with a 2,294- 2,291 win in the smallbore, and coming on top in the air rifle competition with a 2,355-2,341 score.

Akron continued to shine in the dual during the air rifle competition. Sophomore Cierra Terrizzi (Dallastown, Pa.) claimed second place with a 590 shooting score, followed by junior Rebecca Green  (Coventry, RI.) taking third with her 590 score.

The Zips return to action on Sunday, Jan. 28 as Akron takes on Army at the Palmyra Invitational at Palmyra, Pa. at the Palmyra Shooting Range.

Away from action for two months, the Zips fell in the dual 4,711- 4,651. In the air rifle portion, Akron fell 2,377-2,355. West Virginia came out on top in the smallbore 2,334- 2,296.
