Pikunas Moves to 11th Overall, Akron Remains 17th at Golfweek Challenge

Vail, Colo. – Freshman Jacinta Pikunas (Youngstown, Ohio) continues to lead the Akron Zips women's golf team at the Golfweek Conference Challenge, carding a second 73 (+1) en route to the squads 624 (+48) tournament total.

For the second straight day, Pikunas fired a 1-over par 73 score at the Red Sky Golf Club's Fazio Course, a 6,216-yard, par-72 Tom Fazio design. As a result, Pikunas climbed 13 positions on the player board, tying for 11th overall and bringing her tournament total to 2-over par at 146 strokes. During the second round, Pikunas recorded 11 pars, two birdies, and an eagle on the 495-yard, par-5 second hole. Over the last two days, she carded 22 pars, five birdies, and an eagle mixed with seven bogeys and a double bogey.

The Zips maintained their 17th ranking in team scoring, recording a 313 (+25). Denver leads the 18-team field, which includes 16 Top 100 programs and seven Top 50 programs, with a 583 (+7). Arizona is currently runner-up with a 587 (+11) as the Wildcats' Haley Moore leads the player board with a138 (-6) talley.

Junior Danielle Nicholson (Geneva, Ohio) tallied back-to-back rounds of 78 (+6) for a 156 (+12), while senior Pader Her (Holt, Mich.) cut three strokes off her first round to finish with a 159 (+15). Sophomore Allyson Wentworth (Stewartsville, N.J.) followed with a 163 (+19) ledger, while freshman Abbie Pearce (Green, Ohio) enters the final round with a 175 (+31) total.

The final round of the 54-hole Golfweek Conference Challenge is set to begin with a shotgun start 11:00 a.m. ET. Akron is scheduled to tee off from holes 16-18 - Pikunas (16B), Nicholson (16A), Her (17), Wentworth (18B), and Pearce (18A).
