Akron, Ohio – In the same week as the annual Summer Classic Golf Outing, presented by FirstEnergy, The University of Akron men's basketball program will also host a Meet and Greet with new head coach, John Groce.  The Meet and Greet takes place on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at the home of Michael Pollard (Stow, OH), and the Summer Classic Golf Outing tees off on Friday, August 25, 2017 at The Quarry Golf Club in Canton.
On Wed., Aug. 23, ESPN's David Skoczen will start off the evening with an ESPN radio broadcast and then serve as Master of Ceremonies for the John Groce Meet and Greet.  Doors open at 7:00 PM, and attendees can enjoy a live interview of Coach Groce and some of the student-athletes.  Â
The annual Summer Classic will again feature two flights of golf, a morning session (6:45 AM registration) and an afternoon session (12:00 PM registration).  The shotgun start for the morning session is scheduled for 6:45 AM, followed by lunch and awards around 12:45 PM.  The afternoon group will begin at 2:00 PM, and the day will end with a post-outing mixer and awards at 6:00 PM.
Everyone has an opportunity to help the men's basketball program continue to be one of the premier mid-major programs in the country.  There are many ways to participate in either event, from attending the Meet and Greet, playing with a foursome, and/or contributing via sponsorship opportunities. These two events provide a great opportunity for alumni, friends, and fans to show their support of the program as well as offer a chance to visit with Akron basketball's new coaching staff.
The cost for the Summer Classic is $175 per golfer, which includes golf, cart, food and beverages, tee prize package, and complimentary admission to the Meet and Greet. Those who are not participating in the golf outing but plan to attend the Meet and Greet may do so at a cost of $50 per person.
