CHICAGO, Ill. – With nine freshmen in the starting lineup, the Akron women's soccer team continued to gain experience and grow as a unit, as the Akron women's soccer team fell to the reigning Big East Co-Regular season champions, DePaul, 5-0, in the first game of the Loyola Tournament on Friday evening at Loyola Soccer Park.
In the contest, the Zips recorded two shots against the Blue Demons. Junior Shea O'Brien (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) and freshman Lauren Lambert (Stoutsville, Ohio) each registered a shot for Akron.
Freshman goalkeeper Amani Jiu (Brooklyn, N.Y.) earned her third start of the year and stopped four of the Blue Demons eight shots attempted. Redshirt sophomore, Samara Yurchak (Leola, Pa.) entered the match at the 64:35 mark of the second half to close out the contest for the Zips.
Lambert, in her first career start, posted the first shot of the night for either team but her attempt would sail wide at the 4:01 mark.
In the 36', O'Brien looked to get the Zips back in the game with a strong shot attempt, but once again the Akron shot would land wide of the net and out of play.
DePaul scored four goals early in the contest with one in the 10', 12', 18', and 30' of the first half, respectively, before adding one more in the 66'.
Akron is back in action on Sunday, Aug. 27, at 2:30 p.m. (1:30 CT) as the Zips go head-to-head with tournament host Loyola.
