Baylis Advances to the Third Round of Match Play of The Amateur

AKRON – University of Akron men's golfer George Baylis (Ascot, England) enters the third round of The 122nd British Amateur Championships after a pair of 5&4 match play wins at Royal St. George's.

The Amateur is one of the most prestigious amateur events in the world, with 288 players competing in a mixed stroke play and match play format over six days. Baylis opened the event at Prince's Golf Club. Baylis carded nine pars and seven birdies en route to a 5-under par 67 first-round total.

The following day, Baylis fired a 74 (+4) total at the par-70 Royal St. George's Golf Club to finish tied for 54th overall, making the cut for the Top 64 golfers and advancing to match play.

During the first round of match play, Baylis defeated Josh Hilleard of Ferrington Park by a 5&4 margin, qualifying for the second round of match play. Again, Baylis posted a 5&4 victory over Gisli Sveinbergsson of Iceland.

The 288-player field has been narrowed to 32 golfers and 16 matches set for Thursday, June 22. Baylis is scheduled to tee off at 9:36 a.m. against Robert MacIntyre of Glencruitten. Round four of match play is also scheduled to be played at Royal St. George's Golf Club.
