Szynal Finishes Third in Two Events at Polish Nationals

LUBLIN, Poland – Akron senior Luka Szynal (Lublin, Poland) participated at the 2017 Polish National Championships in her hometown over the weekend, finishing third in two events.

"I am very proud of Luka and her accomplishments over the past four years at Akron," said Zips' head coach Brian Peresie. "Her improvement has been impressive, and we are all excited to see what she will set out to try and accomplish next."

During Thursday's prelims, Szynal qualified for the championship final in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:18.19, earning a seventh seed. In the final, Szynal finished third with a time of 2:12.80. Virginia Tech senior Klaudia Nazieblo won the event in 2:11.14.

During Friday's prelims, Szynal qualified for the 100 backstroke final with a time of 1:03.24, good for third. She finished third in the championship final in a time of 1:02.26 behind Alicija Tchorz who took gold in a time of 1:01.03.

During Saturday's action, Szynal qualified eighth in the 50 backstroke in 29.91. She finished eighth in the championship final in 29.72.

Szynal (2014-17) completed her collegiate career at Akron in 2017. At the 2017 Mid-American Conference Championships, Szynal was recognized as the Most Outstanding Senior Swimmer. She was a two-time NCAA Championships participant and a two-time first-team All-MAC selection, helping the Zips to four consecutive MAC championships.
