Akron Climbs Two Spots on the Leaderboard, Pfeiffer Fires 3-Under Par Score

Greenville, S.C. – The Akron men's golf team climbed two spots on the leaderboard after a 1-under par 287 team effort, moving to 13th overall with a 583 (+7) 36-hole team score at the 48th annual Furman Intercollegiate on Saturday.
Senior Yann Pfeiffer (Saint-Nom-la-Bretèche, France) was Akron's low scorer with a 3-under par 69 score. Pfeiffer carded an eagle on the par-5, 483-yard sixth hole after a birdie and four pars for a 3-under tally. He bogeyed holes No. 7 and 8, but finished the front nine with another birdie for a 2-under 34 front-9 score.
On the back, Pfeiffer played bogey free, recording eight par scores and a birdie to finish the round 3-under par. After two rounds, Pfeiffer leads the Zips' scoring efforts with a 1-under par 143, ranking 24th overall.
Freshman Mitchell McFarland (Wheelersburg, Ohio) followed in second round scoring with an even-par 72. McFarland also recorded an eagle on the sixth hole and added two birdies, two bogeys, and a double bogey for the even round. After two rounds,
Sophomore Elliott Grayson (Shelby, N.C.) and junior George Baylis (Ascot, England) followed with 1-over 73 scores. Grayson carded 11 pars, four birdies, two bogeys, and a triple, while Baylis recorded six birdies, six pars, five bogeys, and a double. Grayson is currently second in team scoring with a 146 (+2) two-day total, ranking 47th overall. Baylis ranks 53rd overall with a 147 (+3) 36-hole total.
Rounding out the team scoring was senior Zach Gollwitzer (Ballwin, Mo.) with a 79 (+7) second round. Both, Gollwitzer and McFarland own 154 (+10) two-round totals and rank 110th overall.
In addition, sophomore Jacob Appleby (North Canton, Ohio) followed an opening round 72 (E) score with a 76 (+4) second round score for a 148 (+4) tournament total, ranking tied for 62nd overall while playing as an individual.
Clemson took control of the team scoreboard with a field-low 12-under par 276 second round for a 556 (-20) tournament total. Wofford's Andrew Novak moved to the top of the individual leaderboard with a 6-under 66 score. He currently is 11-under with a 133 tournament total.
Sunday's final round is scheduled for a shotgun start, beginning at 9:30 a.m. The Zips are scheduled to start on holes 10-12 – Grayson (10A), Pfeiffer (10B), Gollwitzer (11A), Baylis (11B), and McFarland (12B). In addition, Appleby will be starting at hole No. 16.
