TOPDRAWERSOCCER.COM POSTSEASON MEN'S TOP 100 LIST RELEASE
AKRON, Ohio – A pair of University of Akron men's soccer senior standouts in Sam Gainford (Liverpool, England) and Stuart Holthusen (Auckland, New Zealand) were selected by TopDrawerSoccer.com to its Postseason National Upperclassmen Top 100 list on Tuesday, Dec. 19.
Gainford and Holthusen were tabbed 38th and 44th, respectively, on the Upperclassmen Top 100 ratings.
Gainford, a team captain, persevered through injuries this season en route to earning All-Mid-American Conference recognition for the third time after collecting first- and second-team accolades in 2015 and 2016, respectively. He appeared in 18 games for Akron, including 15 starts and led the team in shots on goal (24) and game-winners (5), while ranking second on the team in goals (10), assists (5), points (25), shots (50).
A four-time All-MAC recipient, after earning first-team status in 2015 and second-team recognition in 2014 and 2016, was Holthusen, who started all 24 games for Akron this season, owned team-high marks in goals (12), points (27), shots (52) and game-winners (5), while rating second in shots on goal (23).
