Nogaj and Pash Break Conference Records to Pace Zips on Day Two of Zippy Invite

AKRON, Ohio- Freshman Paulina Nogaj (Radom, Poland) and sophomore Jackie Pash (Carmel, Ind.) broke two conference records in the 400 IM and 100 fly to pace the Zips' swimming and diving after the second day of competition of the Zippy Invitational on Saturday night at the Ocasek Natatorium.

The Zips' swimmers came in first-place in seven of the swimming events, while on the boards, Akron had placed third in the three-meter dive.

After two days of competition, the Zips lead the pack with 1,427.5 points, followed by Buffalo in second (1,048), and Bowling Green in third (907).

The relay team of junior Madison Myers (Akron, Ohio), senior Paloma Marrero Munoz (Merida, Spain), junior Sadie Fazekas (Windsor, Ontario), and senior Susan Franz (Canton, Ohio) started off the night crushing the conference record in the 200-medley relay with a first-place time of 1:37.62. The previous time of 1:38.50 was set by Akron last weekend at the Magnus Cup.

In the 400 IM, Pash broke the conference record touching the wall first in 4:13.97. The previous record of 4:16.59 was set by teammate Marrero during the Magnus Cup last weekend. Continuing to break conference records, Pash broke the MAC record in the 100 fly with a first-place clock in time of 52.32. The previous record was set by teammate Nogaj (53.32).

Fazekas came out on top with a first-place finish (1:47.17) in the 200-free event. In Marrero's first individual event of the night, she set a new program record in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:00.47 time. The Zips came away with their sixth first-place finish of the night in the 100 backstroke with Myers completing the event in 52.82, which is a new pool record. She had set the pool record earlier in the day during prelims with a 52.90 time.

In the diving portion of the competition, The Zips placed third in the three-meter diving event. Junior Karly Crail (Edgewood, K.y.) put up 272.95 score, good for 27 points.

In the final swimming event of the night, Pash, freshman Paula Garcia (Madrid, Spain), Nogaj, and Marrero broke the Ocasek pool record in the 800-free relay in a swift time of 7:17.79.

Akron is back tomorrow, Sunday, Dec. 3, as the Zips look to close out the 2017 Zippy Invitational and retain their 2016 crown. Prelims begin at 9 a.m. and finals are scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
The Zippy Invitational continues tomorrow, Saturday, Dec. 2, with prelims starting at 9 a.m. Diving prelims are set to follow at approximately 1 p.m., with finals starting at 6 p.m.

Tickets for each individual prelim session are $6, while tickets to the final sessions are $8 each. Spectators may also purchase a $35 pass, good for entry to each session throughout the weekend. Tickets must be paid for in cash and will be available 90 minutes prior to the start of each session. Heat sheets will also be for sale for $2.

Admission for Akron students is FREE with a valid Zip Card.
