Grayson Continues to Lead Zips, Akron Slides to Sixth at ODU/OBX Intercollegiate

Powells Point, N.C. – Junior Elliott Grayson (Shelby, N.C.) continues to lead the Akron Zips men's golf team at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate after a 72 (+1) en route to a 292 (+8) team total on Monday.
As a result, the Zips fell one spot on the team leaderboard with a 575 (+7) 36-hole leger, while Grayson fell to 14th overall with a 1-under par 141 two-round total. Grayson mixed 11 pars and three birdies with four for the 1-over performance after posting a 2-under 69 effort on Sunday.

Senior George Baylis (Ascot, England) followed an even-par opening round with a 73 (+2) second-round scorecard for a 144 (+2) tournament total. Baylis fell back 2-strokes early in the second round, but carded a birdie on hole No. 8 to finish the front side of the course at 1-over par. He went on to par the following nine consecutive holes, but on No. 18 the senior gave a stroke back to the course to finish at 2-over for the day an 28th overall.

Sophomore Mitchell McFarland (Wheelersburg, Ohio) also fired a 73 (+2) round, to follow an opening round 77 (+6) tally. He is currently tied for 67th overall with a 150 (+8) 36-hole total.

Freshman Fabian Sunden (Sweden) and junior Jacob Appleby (North Canton, Ohio) rounded out the Zips' scoring with 74 (+3) and 77 (+6) scores, respectively. Sunden is tied for 44th overall with a 146 (+4), while Appleby is tied for 58th at 148 (+6).

Campbell continues to lead the 18-team field after a second 14-under par team performance, bringing their total to 28-under par with 540 strokes. Mid-American Conference opponent Ball State climbed one spot on the leaderboard to the runner-up position with a 559 (-9) team ledger.

The final round at the Kilmarlic Golf Club, a par 71 course that stretches 6, 502 yards, is scheduled for an 8 a.m. tee time on Tuesday with McFarland leading the way for Akron. Appleby (8:09), Sunden  (8:18), Baylis (8:27), and Grayson (8:36) will follow.
