AKRON, Ohio - University of Akron head women's cross country and track and field distance coach David Gramlich has been named as the associate head coach for Malone University.
"I am excited for this next chapter in my coaching career, especially the opportunity to return to my alma mater," said Gramlich. "I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Akron, especially my work with the student-athletes. Coach Mitchell has a proven formula for success in leading the Zips' Track and Field programs and I'm grateful to have been able to watch and learn from he and his staff over the last four years."
"David Gramlich was a significant contributor to the success of our program and he will be missed," Akron head track and field coach Dennis Mitchell commented. "We wish he and his family good luck with this new coaching leadership position at his alma mater."
Gramlich, who graduated from Malone in 2005 with a bachelor's degree in education, has spent the last four years as a member of the track and field coaching staff at the University of Akron. He has served as Akron's women's cross country coach and recruiting coordinator for the past three seasons after being the Zips' Director of Operations for track and field from 2012-14.
Gramlich earned 10 NAIA All-America Awards during his time as a Pioneer student-athlete, highlighted by an individual National Championship in the men's marathon at the 2005 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. He qualified for the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials in 2008.
