Zips Finish Foreign Tour Undefeated with 124-63 Win over Stingers

Nassau, Bahamas – Akron men's basketball finishes the 2016 BTC Summer of Thunder tour with a 2-0 record after defeating the PJ Stingers 124-63 at Sir Kendal Isaacs Arena in Nassau, Bahamas on Monday Night.
The Zips controlled the game from the opening tap as Freshman Tavian Dunn-Martin (Huntington, W.Va.) led the way 23 points and six Zips posted double figures. UA controlled the glass 52-33 and forced 36 turnovers with 21 steals.
Dunn-Martin made nearly every shot that left his hands. He drained 82 percent of his shots on 9-of-11 shooting from the field, including a 5-of-6, 83 percent effort from downtown. Dunn-Martin added five assists, four steals and three rebounds.
Junior Antino Jackson (Houston, Texas) followed with 18 points on with a 7-of-12 showing from the field, which included a 4-of-6 performance from deep, while Senior Kwan Cheatham (Cincinnati, Ohio) poured in 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the floor and 3-of-6 from beyond the 3-point arc. Sophomore Josh Williams (Akron, Ohio) also scored in double figures with 11 points, while Sophomore Jimond Ivey (Cleveland, Ohio) and Freshman Michael Hughes (Liberty, Mo.) rounded out the double-digit performers with 10 points each.
Zips started slow, but still managed to put up 31 points by the end of the first quarter. Akron buried six of their 19 made 3-pointers in the first quarter and limited the Stingers to just 10 points.
Cheatham opened the second quarter with three-straight triples and buried a fourth from long distance while Williams found the bottom of the net with one 3-pointer. Akron extended the lead to 25 points, finishing the half 59-24 score.
The Zips continued to roll in the second half, scoring 32 points in the third frame and closing out the game with a 33-point fourth quarter.
The Zips will enjoy an off day on Tuesday, Aug. 16, before departing for Akron on Wednesday, Aug. 17.
