Akron Swimming and Diving Named 2016 CSCAA Scholar All-American Team

AKRON, Ohio – The University of Akron swimming and diving team was named a College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America Scholar All-American team for the 2016 spring semester.
Along with the teams recognition, senior's Hannah Raspopovich (Crown Point, Ind.) and Ashley Niznik (McDonald, Pa.) earned CSCAA individual All-American honors, while senior Erin Seiler (Phoenixville, Pa.), junior Paige Kelkenberg (Lockport, N.Y.), and freshman Ragen Engel (Springfield, Ohio) earned CSCAA All-American honorable mentions.
"Once again, congratulations to our Lady Zips swimmers and divers," said head coach Brian Peresie. "This is one of my favorite times of the year as we recognize the team and individual Scholar All-Americans. It is an exceptional accomplishment and I very proud to be their coach."
The Akron team finished the spring semester with a combined grade point average of 3.30 to earn the bid for the honor. Seventeen members of the swimming and diving squad achieved a GPA of above a 3.5.
As a team, the Zips have now earned the honor of a CSCAA All-American team for the fourth time in program history.
The five individual swimmers representing Akron as individual All-Americans are the most from a school representing the Mid-American Conference.
The CSCAA Scholar All-American team award is in recognition of teams' that achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the 2016 spring semester. The Zips were among 658 other teams to be earning the achievement.
Individually, to be selected to the CSCAA Scholar All-America Team, swimmers and divers must have achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and have participated in their respective Swimming and Diving Championships. Honorable Mention selections have similarly achieved a GPA of 3.50 and achieved a "B" time standard or competed at their respective diving qualifying meets.
The College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) – the oldest organization of college coaches in America -is a professional organization of college swimming and diving coaches dedicated to serving and providing leadership for the advancement of the sport of swimming & diving at the collegiate level.
