AKRON, Ohio - The University of Akron track and field program will send 26 student-athletes from its men's and women's teams – competing in 19 events – to the NCAA East Preliminary Round at North Florida University in Jacksonville, Fla., from May 26-28.

The group looks to join senior Alex McCune (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and sophomore Jackie Siefring (Covington, Ohio), who have earned automatic-qualifying bids to the NCAA Championships, June 8-11, in Eugene, Ore., in the decathlon and heptathlon, respectively.

"It is a great solid group representing Akron," Akron head coach Dennis Mitchell commented. "I would not be surprised if this group produced a school-record number of NCAA finalists to join Alex McCune and Jackie Siefring, who have already qualified in the decathlon and heptathlon."

The meet, which invites the region's top 48 athletes in each event, serves as the opening round of the NCAA Outdoor Championships. The top 12 finishers in each event will advance to the NCAA National Championship in Eugene, Ore. from June 8-11.

The NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field Committee announced the full list of participants for the 2016 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Preliminary Championships Thursday, May 19.
