AKRON, Ohio - Sparked by 14 first-place performances and a pair of school records from junior Clayton Murphy (New Paris, Ohio) and sophomore Jackie Siefring (Covington, Ohio), the University of Akron men's and women's track and field teams each registered a trio of dual-meet victories to lead the Zips on the second day of the Northeast Ohio Quad on Saturday, April 16, at the Lee R. Jackson Track and Field Complex.
Crossing the line in a school- and track-record time of 57.61 in the 400-meter hurdles was Siefring, while Murphy posted the fastest time in program history in the 3,000 meters winning the race in 8:19.09.
Recording the third- and fifth-best all-time marks in the long jump to finish first and second, respectively, was sophomore Terrell McClain (Youngstown, Ohio) and senior Joe Oduho (Erie, Pa.). McClain surpassed 26-1 (7.95m), the second-best mark nationally this spring, while Oduho soared to a jump of 25-3.25 (7.70m).
Freshman Cody Stine (Shelby, Ohio) eclipsed 7-0.50 (2.15m) in the high jump to notch the third-best mark in program history.
Collecting the fourth-best times in the 100- and 400-meter hurdles at 13.88 and 61.83, respectively, was freshman Dara Perry (Akron, Ohio) and redshirt sophomore Michalla Gordon (Wadsworth, Ohio).
The Zips also benefitted from first-place efforts from redshirt freshman Mackenzie Andrews (Toowoomba, Australia) in the 3,000 meters (10:30.94), freshman Ian Behm (Volant, Pa.) in the javelin (197-4/60.16m), senior Claudia Garcia Jou (Barcelona, Spain) in the high jump (6-0.75/1.85m), redshirt senior Caroline Hasse (Potsdam, Germany) in the pole vault (13-8.25/4.17m), junior Phil Jagers (Solon, Ohio) in the discus (196-0/59.74m), redshirt junior Ana Martin-Sacristan (Valencia, Spain) in the long jump (19-6.25/5.95m), redshirt junior Mike Ohiembor (Dayton, Ohio) in the triple jump (50-6.75/15.41m), redshirt junior Ariadna Ramos Gandia (Barcelona, Spain) in the triple jump (39-10.75/12.16m), redshirt senior Sean Weems (Maple Heights, Ohio) in the 400-meter hurdles (52.47), redshirt junior Natalie Zidd (Hinckley, Ohio) in the 800 meters (2:12.49), junior Dan Zupan (Berea, Ohio) in the 1,500 meters (3:57.52) and the men's 4x400 relay team of Weems, redshirt seniors Brent Gray (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Nick Owens (Brunswick, Ohio) and redshirt sophomore Taron Slone (Columbus, Ohio) in 3:16.63.
Akron returns to action traveling to Baton Rouge, La., for the LSU Alumni Invitational next Friday and Saturday, April 22-23.
