Women's Tennis Takes on Buffalo in Season's Final Homestand

AKRON, Ohio— The University of Akron women's tennis team closes out the home portion of the season in a Mid-American Conference match with Buffalo on Saturday, April 16. Seniors Martina Zerbola (Neuquen, Argentina) and Madison Cohen (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) will be honored before the match.
The match between the Zips (13-9 overall, 3-3 MAC) and the Bulls (11-6 overall, 3-2 MAC) will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the Outdoor Tennis Facility.
Last weekend, Buffalo handed Ball State its first MAC loss of the season as UB defeated the Cardinals in a close 4-3 result. The Bulls face off against Northern Illinois at 1 p.m. today (April 15) on the campus of Toledo.
Most recently, the Zips fell in a 5-2 MAC decision at Miami (OH). In singles action, sophomore Ariadna Blinova (Riga, Latvia) competed against Miami's No. 1 player, Anzhelika Shapovalova, to seize a 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-5) victory. At No. 2 singles, fellow sophomore Sophia Geier (Burgebrach, Germany) grabbed a 7-6 (9-7), 6-2 triumph versus the Redhawks' Hannah Shteyn.
Akron finishes the regular season on the road against Bowling Green Friday, April 22. First serve is set for 1 p.m. at the Keefe Courts on the BG campus.
