Men's Golf Finishes Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate 14th Overall

Aiken, S.C. – The University of Akron men's golf team remained 14th overall after the final round at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate hosted by South Carolina Aiken. The Zips fired a final round 294 (+14) at the par-70, 6, 617-yard Palmetto Golf Course for an 885 (+45) 54-hole total.
For the second straight year, South Carolina claimed the team title, carding a 19-under par 54-hole total of 839 strokes. South Carolina's Matthew NeSmith earned medalist honors with a 7-under 203, firing rounds of 67 (-3), 67 (-3), and 69 (-1).
Every Akron player moved up the leaderboard on the final day of competition. Akron sophomore George Baylis (Ascot, England) continued to lead the Zips through the final round, carding a 72 (+2). He moved up six spots on the leaderboard to finish 32nd overall with 219 strokes and scores of 74 (+4), 73 (+3), and 72 (+2).Freshman Elliott Grayson (Shelby, N.C.) also moved up six spots for a 41st place finish with a 221 stroke total and rounds of 70 (E), 78 (+8), and 73 (+3).
Senior Louis Birchall (Ingestre Park, England) followed rounds of 74 (+4) and 75 (+5) with another 74 (+4) to climb four spots with a 223 tournament total (52nd overall) while junior J.B. Williams (Danville, Ky.), and junior Yann Pfeiffer (Saint-Nom-la-Breteche, France) rounded out the scoring.. Williams posted scores of 72 (+2), 80 (+10), and 75 (+5) for a 227 finish, moving six spots, while Pfeiffer shot 77 (+7), 75 (+5), and 76 (+6) to finish two places better at 74th with a 228 total.
The Zips will be back in action on Friday through Sunday, March 25-27 at the Furman Intercollegiate in Greenville, S.C. at Furman Golf Course.
