SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Led by a school-record in the men's triple jump from redshirt junior Mike Ohiembor (Dayton, Ohio), the University of Akron track and field team registered 24 top-five performances to close out competition at the Ricardo Romo Invitational on Saturday, March 26.
Ohiembor soared 51-1.50 (15.58m) to break his own school-record mark of 50-8.75 set at the 2015 Mid-American Conference Championships on May 16, 2015, while also representing the seventh-longest jump in the country this spring. His efforts enabled the Zips to finish second among the six-team field with 121 points to best squads from Baylor, UT-San Antonio, Texas State and TCU.
Junior Daniella Johnson (Gahanna, Ohio) captured the women's long jump with a leap of 19-10.75 (6.06m) to lead Akron to a third-place effort in the team standings with 100.50 points, placing the Zips ahead of UT-San Antonio, Texas State and TCU.
Registering marks that cracked the top-five all-time lists in program history was redshirt junior Arianda Ramos Gandia (Barcelona, Spain) and sophomores Terrell McClain (Youngstown, Ohio) and Jackie Siefring (Covington, Ohio).
Ramos Gandia placed second in the triple jump recording fourth-best jump in program history in the triple jump (40-0/12.19m).
McClain soared 25-2 (7.67m) to finish second in the long jump with the fifth-best mark in program history.
Equaling the fifth-fastest time in program history in the 100-meter hurdles was Siefring, who ran the race in 14.02 to finish fifth.
