15 Zips Swimming and Diving Student-Athletes Earn Academic All-MAC Honors

AKRON, Ohio – Fifteen student-athletes from the Akron women's swimming and diving program were named to the 2016 Academic All-MAC team, announced by the conference on Tuesday.
15 Academic All-MAC honorees are the most honors earned by the Zips in one year in program history. The Zips earned 13 Academic All-MAC selections as year ago.
"This is a very impressive gorup of young women. Highly motivated in the classroom as well as the pool," said head coach Brian Peresie. "We all feel very fortunate to be coaching them and appreciate their efforts."
Ashley Drazkowski (3.676, Public Relations & IMC), sophomore Susan Franz (3.452, Education/AYA Integrated Math), senior Alice Hottensmith (3.331, Accounting), junior Kara Kaulius (3.581, Accounting), junior Paige Kelkenberg (3.682, Sports Management), sophomore Allison Teske (3.733, Exercise & Physiology Science), senior Ashley Niznik (3.574, Marketing Management & IMC), junior Emily O'Brien (3.285, Biomedical Engineering), sophomore Natalie O'Brien (3.817, Natural Sciences), junior Hannah Palochak (3.650, Pre-Physical Therapy), senior Hannah Raspopovich, (3.542, Nursing), junior Laura Savaraiu (3.547, Biology), senior Erin Seiler (3.428, Food & Environmental Nutrition), sophomore Kristen Vargas (3.502, Pre-Physical Therapy), junior Laura Weiss (3.418, Marketing Management & IMC) were selected for the 2016 Academic All-MAC team.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.
